Clara G., an associate professor of ethics at the Faculty of Philosophy, is in crisis. After fifty, recently separated, unable to get a place in the university and about to be homeless, she begins to suffer strange attacks. She often faints, she hears persistent noises, she is invaded by dark, paranoid thoughts. Clara G. has been part of the system, but she is increasingly cornered, getting closer to the margin. She drifts, encountering several men, until his ethical compass is straightened by a chance find: a fabulously sharp kitchen knife.
What should be the pattern of her behaviour in an increasingly hostile environment? What are the ethical boundaries of a system that can only survive at the cost of the misery of others? -

Inspired by the oracle of Delphos and its cries to know ourselves, on I AM (VR) the participants wear virtual reality glasses and are lured into mysterious rooms to the unknown. They walk through tunnels like wormholes that crossthe fabric of space-time to reach new planets under new skies, and a new oracle. It is a 35-minute journey through a hallucinatory post-theatre environment following the maxim: ‘I dream therefore I am, both in reality and virtually’.

In this project, hope and love transcend human cruelty. Onstage: 25 Ukrainian, Polish and Belarusian mothers and their children. The voices convey Ukrainian children’s voices full of life, traditional songs, magic spells and striking political statements. They are the refugees from Mariupol, Kyiv and Bucha. Some of them fled the war; others, persecution. They all have a place in the Heart of Mothers, which follows an operatic form that dates back to ritual women’s choruses from the seventh century BC.

Fernando Atienza, from his fourteen years stealing cars in the shantytowns of Montjuïc, to his thirty-somethings dealing in the alleys adjacent to the Plaza Real, passing through his first youth as a boy for all ambitious financiers of the upper zone, he travels from the Francoism afternoons to the Transition and the ‘92 Olympic
dream. But there will be no day that has left more trace in his biography than “the day of the Watusi”: August 15, 1971, the day he saw a body, and even two, for the first time. That foundational moment that, from then on, will accompany you every second of the rest of your life. -

Iphigenia, the daughter of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra and the sister of Orestes –the future legitimiser of Athenian democracy– has to be sacrificed so the gods turn in favour of the Greek soldiers so they can reach Troy to win back Helen. While her father is debating whether or not to murder his daughter, the army is desperate camping on the beach. Soon they are left without any food, summer is around the corner, impatience surges, the atmosphere is suffocating… And yet again, the virgin is about to be sacrificed. But who is Iphigenia? Does she agree to be immolated for the greater good? Or is she the victim that ends up representing the purest goodness? An innocent girl or an aware woman? A role model worthy of homage? An accomplice of the violence? Or a rebel?

At 19 months, Helen Keller lost her sight and hearing to illness. However, in 1904 he became the first deaf and blind person to earn a degree. However, all his life he had to fight less against his disabilities than against a society designed for ‘seers’ and ‘listeners’. An anti-capitalist dissident in an anti-communist context, rediscovering it is breaking the silence that hangs over rebellious women.

RETRAT DE L'ARTISTA MORT
GRÀCIA
Davide Carnevali
from Thursday, 30 May 2024 to Sunday, 9 June 2024
GRÀCIA
cast TBD
The Teatre Lliure traces a production of the Piccolo Teatro of Milan on the disappeared of World War II and those of Vidula’s Argentina, written and directed by Davide Carnevali. What is the relationship between the disappearance of a political dissident during the Argentine military dictatorship of 1978 and that of a Jewish pianist in 1941?
Between autobiography and fiction, between historical and police research, this show presents a reflection on the barbarism of totalitarianism that has passed through the twentieth century.
